What a valid invoice must contain

A legally valid invoice identifies both parties and the operation: a sequential number, the issue date, your name and tax ID and your customer’s, a description of the goods or services, the taxable base, the tax rate and amount, any retention, and the total. The generator lays those out for you; the fields marked as required are the ones the law insists on.

IVA and IRPF on the generated invoice

Each line carries its own IVA rate, so a single invoice can mix 21% and 10% services, and the PDF breaks the tax down by rate the way the quarterly return wants it. If you are a Spanish autónomo invoicing a Spanish business, the IRPF retention (15% as a rule, 7% for new professionals) is applied automatically and shown on its own line; switch it off for private individuals and for customers abroad.

Invoicing a business in another EU country? Set the customer’s country and VAT number and the generator switches to the intra-EU reverse charge: 0% IVA on every line and the legal wording the customer’s accountant expects, in the language of the PDF.

Invoice numbers: why a generator can only go so far

Invoice numbers must be sequential with no gaps, and once issued an invoice cannot be edited — only corrected with a new document. A generator cannot know what you issued last month, so the number is yours to track. That is the main reason to keep your invoices in one place once you issue more than a handful a year: the next number is allocated for you, drafts stay editable until you issue, and issued documents stay frozen.

Invoicing customers abroad

The tax treatment follows the customer’s country: domestic, intra-EU reverse charge, export, or outside the scope of your tax. Pick the language of the PDF per customer so a German client gets a Rechnung and a French one a facture, with the same numbers underneath. Prices can be in euros, pounds, dollars and a few other currencies.

When a generator is not enough

From 2027, invoices issued in Spain must come from VERI*FACTU-compliant software that submits each invoice record to the AEAT and prints the tax QR. A PDF from a generator does neither. If you invoice in Spain, plan to move to invoicing software before your deadline (1 January 2027 for companies, 1 July 2027 for autónomos). Invoice 14 does this on its paid plans — the same invoice you build here, submitted to the AEAT as you issue it.

  • Sequential numbering allocated for you, per series
  • Email the invoice from the app and record the payment when it arrives
  • Customers and products saved once and reused
  • Quarterly helpers for the Modelo 303/390, 347 and 349
  • VERI*FACTU submission with the AEAT QR (paid plans)

Frequently asked questions

Is the invoice generator really free? Do I need an account?

Yes, and no. You can generate and download as many invoices as you like without signing up. There is a fair-use limit per connection so the service stays fast for everyone.

Where is my data stored?

In your browser only. The form is saved in your browser’s local storage so a reload does not lose it; the PDF is rendered on our server from what you send and is not kept. Use “Start over” to clear the form.

Can I make a Spanish autónomo invoice with IRPF retention?

Yes. With Spain as both countries, the IRPF retention is applied automatically at 15% (change it to 7% if you are in your first three years). The PDF shows the base, the IVA by rate, the retention and the amount to pay.

Can I create a VERI*FACTU invoice with the generator?

No. VERI*FACTU requires the software to submit a record of each invoice to the AEAT at issuance and to print a QR that links to it; a generator that keeps nothing cannot do that. Invoice 14’s paid plans submit invoices to the AEAT as they are issued.

Can I edit an invoice after downloading it?

Here, yes — change anything and download again. Legally, though, once an invoice has been sent to a customer it must not be altered: a mistake is fixed with a corrective invoice (factura rectificativa) that references the original.

Automatic numbering, email sending, payment tracking and VERI*FACTU when you need it. Free for up to 14 invoices a year — no credit card.

The generator and the notes above describe the general invoicing rules for self-employed professionals and small businesses and are not legal or tax advice. Rates, retentions and the treatment of cross-border operations depend on your activity and your customer — confirm them with your gestor or the tax agency.
